As a new driver you may not be aware of all the things you need to know to be able to drive safely on today’s busy and overcrowded roads The DVSA (who set the tests) state that you need a minimum of 44hrs of driving tuition with a professional driving instructor to give you the ability to pass the UK driving test. As this figure is a calculated average based on statistics, every student is different.
I adapt my lesson delivery style and delivery speed to suit the needs of the student.
To support your learning, in car training aids are used together with the latest training techniques and coaching styles allowing you to take control of your own learning rate.
Even if you haven’t started your driving lessons yet, you can speed up the learning process by studying the Highway Code. You will need to pass the Theory Test prior to booking your practical driving test. As an instructor, I will advise you when it is the right time to book your practical test.
Key Skills You Will Learn For Safe Driving.
- Car Controls : What They are and how to use them
- Car Checks : Tyres, Fluids, Lights etc. What to check and how to check them.
- Mirrors : How to set them up correctly and how to use them effectively.
- Signals : Different signals available, When and how to use them
- Moving Away : How to move away in different situations under control (In Traffic or Up a hill for example)
- Stopping : How to stop safely and legally on either the right or left hand side of the road.
- Junctions : How to deal with all types of Junctions (T-Junctions, Cross roads, Roundabouts etc)
- Road Position : Lane discipline, road markings, roundabout navigation, dual carriageways.
- Road Type : Town, Rural Residential (Speed limits and dealing with meeting other vehicles)
- Dual Carriageways & Motorways : Rules and driving styles, safe distance, emergency situations.
- Manoeuvring : Reversing manoeuvres required for day to day driving. Slow speed car control and accuracy. Manoeuvres such as – Forward/Reverse Bay Park, Parallel Park, Straight Line Reverse
- Controlled Stop : Stopping in the event of an Emergency and how to deal with ABS or skidding.
- Route Guidance : The ability to Navigate following Road signs or at Sat Nav system.
The above list is not a definitive list. There are other things within each section that will be covered. All of the above (with the exception or Motorway Driving) are or can be tested in full or part during the current driving test
